Greetings Nonprofit Champions and Supporters!
It’s Hospitality Month at the Chamber! The “Hospitality” industry spans a wide range of services intended to receive, engage and entertain guests, visitors, and others in our community. The Bay Area is rich in hospitality-related businesses — and nonprofits are part of that mix!
Come hear guest speaker Marti Burchell, Executive Director of the Potomac Association, share about one of the treasures of the Bay — the Presidential Yacht Potomac. The Potomac is a former USCG Cutter and was a favorite getaway for President Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1936 to 1945. FDR hosted heads of state, royalty and some congressional scoundrels on board through out his presidency. The ship left presidential service in 1946 and passed through several private owners before landing in San Francisco Bay. One stormy night the ship sank at Treasure Island and from literally the bottom of the Bay, began a nearly 20 year odyssey of restoration. Today, the USS Potomac is beautifully restored and sails regularly on educational tours and special event cruises out of her berth in Jack London Square.
The Nonprofit Roundtable is also delighted to welcome and hear from Beverley Wilburn, representing Comcast Cable — a leading provider of news, entertainment and opportunities!
This meeting is a great place to network and expand your thinking about the hospitality role your agency plays in our community. Please feel free to invite a marketing – outreach person, Board Member or other stakeholder from your agency to participate. As always, we will have empowered introductions, a skills-building exercise, and we will hear about what’s happening at the Chamber.
This event is free to members of the Oakland Chamber of Commerce, and non-members are welcomed to request a guest pass.
